NEC has announced plans to introduce wireless USB (Universal Serial Bus) host controllers as early as the second half of 2005. These chips will facilitate high-speed data exchange between PCs and peripheral equipment. By mid-2006, NEC plans to introduce a Wireless USB hub controller, which are used in relay equipment to connect PCs with other peripherals. NEC is looking to build off of its strong presence in the market for USB 2.0 system chips, where it is said to boast a 75% worldwide market share in host controllers and a 45% in hub controllers.
